The Best Inuyasha Quotes, Checked Against the Episodes
Twelve checked lines from the Inuyasha anime and The Final Act, two each from Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshomaru, Miroku, Sango and Kikyo, each tied to its episode.
Spoilers throughout. This page assumes you have finished the series.
Inuyasha spent 167 episodes, from 2000 to 2004, sending a schoolgirl and a half-demon after the shards of a jewel that grants wishes, then stopped without an ending; The Final Act, 26 more episodes in 2009–10, supplied one. Its best lines are rarely about the swords. They are about people bargaining with grief, with each other and with a jewel that corrupts every wish made on it. Twelve checked lines follow, two each from Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshomaru, Miroku, Sango and Kikyo, all from the anime and all as Wikiquote transcribes them. Wikiquote does not say which English translation its transcriptions come from, so these are English transcriptions rather than the text of a particular dub or subtitle release. Episode numbers come from Anime News Network’s episode lists.
“You don't know anything. Demons will never accept half-demons, even if they're related by blood.” — Inuyasha
Episode 73, to Shiori's mother, after Myoga has said that strengthening Tetsusaiga means slaying her half-demon daughter. Twenty-six episodes in he still meant to use the Jewel to become a full demon; this is the man who has since learned what belonging costs.
“I want to be here with you, Inuyasha. I tried to forget you but I can't.” — Kagome Higurashi
Episode 48, at the Bone-Eater’s Well, where Inuyasha finds her waiting, moments after he has said he owes Kikyo his own life. Kagome has just told him that her heart belongs to her, which is why the line reads as a decision rather than a surrender.
“I will slay him... eventually. Why kill him now, when he doesn't know himself? There would be no point.” — Sesshomaru
Episode 52, after holding off his transformed brother instead of killing him. Miroku suspects affection; the same episode has Sesshomaru telling Inuyasha that a half-demon should act like one.
“Oh, that. I ask the same question every single time I meet a new girl.” — Miroku
Episode 41, the running joke at its thinnest and the line this page rates lowest. The laugh in the scene is Sango's reply, “Every girl except one maybe,” which the quote leaves out.
“No. I got this scar...from my younger brother. If only I realized some things earlier I could have prevented his death. Kohaku was tender-hearted. He was always a very gentle boy. Perhaps he wasn't suited for the life of a demon-slayer.” — Sango
Episode 29, in a hot spring, after Kagome sees the scar on her back. The same episode has already shown Kohaku alive in Naraku’s service; in the next, Naraku tells Sango that the Jewel’s power revived him.
“Tsubaki was entirely obsessed with the Sacred Jewel, so she was doomed to failure. Obsessed, just as I am obsessed.” — Kikyo
Episode 64, a thought after a flashback in which she tells the young Kaede she was entrusted with keeping the Jewel pure. She convicts herself of her rival’s fault.
“There is not one person in this world who never feels lost, who has never sinned in life. Those who try to be forever divine, those who try to be forever kind, and even those who are tainted by evil. Everyone wishes to be saved.” — Kikyo
Episode 120, as Saint Hakushin's soul is released and the barrier around Mount Hakurei collapses behind it. A poster of a line; the cost of the mercy is in the scene, not the sentence.
“Kikyo, you were the first woman that I ever loved. The first person that I ever cared for. But, I... I still couldn't save you.” — Inuyasha
The Final Act, episode 8, to Kikyo as she dies in his arms. She answers that it is the first time she has seen him cry.
“Nothing I could have gained was worth losing her. Nothing at all!” — Sesshomaru
The Final Act, episode 9, a thought over Rin's body in the underworld, from the demon who once told his brother never to accept human aid.
“Listen to me! You seem convinced that I'm rushing to my death, but my decision has nothing to do with that. Don't you see it? Drinking this medicine will determine how I live.” — Miroku
The Final Act, episode 12, answering Inuyasha's warning that the Master of Potions' medicine will only numb him into using the Wind Tunnel sooner.
“I plan to survive, and share my life with the monk. Knowing he's alive is what gives me the courage to live on. Hiraikotsu, I beg of you... lend both of us your strength!” — Sango
The Final Act, episode 12, to the spirits of her weapon, who have asked whether she will throw her life away for a dying man.
“Just like Kikyo. She wished to see Inuyasha again. And even Naraku. I'm sure his wish was a modest one, too. What they didn't know was that the Shikon Jewel never grants your real wish.” — Kagome Higurashi
The Final Act, episode 26, inside the Jewel, just before she makes the one wish it cannot twist.

The wording of every line is from Wikiquote’s InuYasha page. Episode numbers come from Anime News Network’s episode lists for the 2000–04 series and The Final Act. Wikiquote numbers part of the second season one higher than ANN does, and leaves most of its sections unnumbered, so ANN’s numbering is used throughout. How the TV series, the four films, The Final Act and Yashahime fit together is in our Inuyasha watch order, and the English and Japanese tracks are compared in Inuyasha: sub or dub? How every quote on this site is checked is set out in our verification notes.
