Chainsaw Man: Sub or Dub?
Chainsaw Man has a full English dub for the series and the Reze Arc film. Here are the checked casts and what the English cast has said about recording it.
Either track works for Chainsaw Man. Choose English if you want the crude jokes and the screaming without reading them; choose Japanese if you want Kikunosuke Toya's Denji and Tomori Kusunoki's Makima. The film keeps both main casts, with one change behind the English microphone worth knowing about.
Who plays whom in the series?
ANN's encyclopedia credits Kikunosuke Toya as Denji, Tomori Kusunoki as Makima, Fairouz Ai as Power and Shōgo Sakata as Aki Hayakawa in Japanese. In English it lists Ryan Colt Levy as Denji, Suzie Yeung as Makima, Sarah Wiedenheft as Power and Reagan Murdock as Aki, with Mike McFarland as ADR director. ANN's season 1 entry has both casts; MAPPA animated it.
Crunchyroll announced the English cast in September 2022 ahead of the series' October launch on its service, as But Why Tho reported.
The Reze Arc film
For Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, ANN lists Reina Ueda as Reze in Japanese and Alexis Tipton in English, with the main cast returning on both sides. The English ADR director changes: ANN credits Caitlin Glass, not McFarland. The film's entry has the credits.
Sony Pictures Entertainment released the film's trailer "with the English dub and in Japanese with English subtitles" and moved its U.S. opening to October 24, 2025, according to ANN.
What the English cast has said
At New York Comic Con in 2022, Popverse spoke to McFarland and the four English leads. Levy described recording the final section of the first episode while McFarland laughed between takes "because I was just getting so unhinged." The interview is a performer's account of how a session went, not an assessment of the result, but it tells you what the English Denji was aiming for.
What to listen for
Denji's crude jokes sit right next to horror. Pick one scene where he is being crude and one where he is out of his depth, and hear both in each language. Which version makes him sound like a kid rather than a mascot? Then try one of Makima's calm, even conversations: a voice that sounds pleasant in a clip can work differently across a whole conversation.
Neither track is a mistake. Use the watch order for where the film sits, our Reze character analysis before or after the film, and the manga for everything the anime has not reached.
