Hunter x Hunter Manga Buying Guide: Singles or 3-in-1
Choose between singles and the newer 3-in-1 line, with checked contents, overlap examples and the next two announced collection dates.
Choose Hunter x Hunter singles if you want the later English volumes without waiting for the collected line; choose the 3-in-1 books if you want the opening story in fewer bindings. Checked October 8, 2026: VIZ’s single-volume listing reaches Volume 38. The omnibus spine numbers measure groups of original volumes, and its announced books do not yet reach that point.
What the collected books actually cover
| Collected book | Original volumes | Publication record |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Volumes 1–3 | February 18, 2025 |
| 2 | Volumes 4–6 | Check the edition when filling gaps |
| 7 | Volumes 19–21 | August 18, 2026 |
| 8 | Volumes 22–24 | Announced November 17, 2026 |
| 9 | Volumes 25–27 | Announced February 16, 2027 |
These are specific official distributor contents subtitles, not a conversion based on page count. Checked October 8, 2026: the dates for books 8 and 9 are still future announcements. A plan that depends on those books is a plan to preorder or wait, rather than a claim that the complete collected stretch is already on a shelf.
Starting the manga
Single Volume 1 is the targeted choice if you want to try one original volume. Collected 1 asks you to choose the opening three together. The latter may suit someone who already intends to read that far; a smaller purchase may suit someone deciding whether to continue.
A gift buyer should establish whether the reader already owns the first three originals. If so, collected 1 repeats their story coverage. An opening book can still be a collector’s gift, but it should be selected as another format rather than presented as the next installment.
Switching without losing your place
After originals 1–3, collected 2 supplies 4–6 without a repeated original volume. After originals 1–4, that same book repeats 4 to add 5 and 6. If you want to avoid paying for that repeat, stay with singles for the missing stretch; if you want fewer bindings, accept the duplicate intentionally.
At the later checked boundary, an owner of originals 1–21 can use collected 8 for 22–24 after its publication. Someone who already owns 1–23 would repeat 22 and 23 to add 24. Conversely, after collected 7, single 22 is the next original volume if you want to continue before the collected 8 release.
The unfinished collected purchase plan
Even the announced collected book 9 reaches only original 27. Compare that stated endpoint with the single-volume inventory’s 38 before planning a uniform shelf. Do you want to stop and wait for collections, or continue with singles? That is the practical choice; an announcement for one collected book does not promise a date for the remainder.
This page does not call the single 38 the ending of Hunter x Hunter. It is the endpoint visible in the checked English single-volume listing. A publisher’s latest listed volume and a completed story are different facts, and the former cannot establish the latter.
Use the Hunter x Hunter catalog and collected inventory to match editions when buying a mixed lot. Keep “original volume” and “collected book” in your shopping note, and check the contents before applying a spine number. An anime episode number is not a substitute for either.
