Blue Box moves from exertion to recovery as Chinatsu cares for Taiki after he pushes himself too hard. For a reader tracking the romance, enforced rest creates a different kind of closeness from shared athletic ambition. Taiki still struggles to find the words for it. The appeal of this premise lies in an interruption to his usual effort: receiving care puts him in a position that practicing harder cannot produce.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

Being cared for can look like evidence that a crush is reciprocated, especially to the person receiving the care. Taiki's feeling that Chinatsu is closer does not settle what that closeness means. Hina's invitation makes that uncertainty consequential: he has another person's initiative to respond to while interpreting Chinatsu's kindness. This is not the reason to buy the run for tournament competition. Its narrower appeal is the interruption of the training ideal, with a boy who has overworked himself receiving help instead of proving his endurance. Rest changes his position without necessarily clarifying his relationships.
