Blue Lock prepares to challenge Japan's existing youth team, but Isagi must first win a place in its own lineup. The surviving strikers enter tryouts with fewer starting places than candidates. This is the point to follow if the program's claim to improve Japanese soccer interests you more than internal rankings alone. The competition now aims toward an external representative side, while the players still have to compete with one another to reach it.

The prospect of facing the existing national youth team changes what the project has to prove. Internal elimination can rank Blue Lock's own candidates indefinitely; an outside opponent makes the program answer to a standard it did not invent. Tryouts preserve the personal competition inside that larger challenge. Isagi cannot simply enjoy belonging to the group that survived, because only some survivors will play. The resulting purchase case is the change from a closed experiment to an impending public test of its output. Blue Lock has cultivated individual strikers and now needs a team capable of defending the experiment's purpose.
