The Manshine City match enters its final minutes with Isagi trying to turn a goal-line save into an attack. His own teammates remain part of the problem as well as the solution. This continues a contest already spread across the surrounding books, so it is a poor isolated sample of the series. The particular reason to follow this section is the collision between a shared score and players who need that score to belong to them.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

Yukimiya takes the ball from Isagi just as Isagi prepares his counterattack. Kodansha ties Yukimiya's urgency to failing eyesight, giving the conflict a limit that is different from the match clock. Isagi needs an opportunity now; Yukimiya fears losing the ability to keep pursuing opportunities at all. That difference does not make taking the ball automatically right, but it prevents the clash from being only a contest of vanity. This is not the reason to buy the run if you want cleanly cooperative team play. The book's argument depends on a teammate making victory harder to organize.
