Okarun begins Dandadan's next preparation stage badly injured and separated from his own body. The alien danger is still approaching, while the rest of the group also has work to do before it arrives. This is a bridge within the crisis, not a reset after a clean recovery. Read it for the mismatch between the need to prepare and the condition of a character who first has to find a way back to himself.

Preparation is necessary here, but this is not the reason to buy the run for a self-contained confrontation. Okarun's strange route through a telephone connection brings him to Turbo Granny, whose instruction serves both his immediate bodily problem and the approaching invasion. Meanwhile, the others train separately and return to find the invasion already underway. That ending to the preparation premise denies the comfort of a neatly reserved practice period. Learning remains useful, but the enemy does not have to respect the group's readiness. The book connects recovery to the next battle while keeping their schedules inconveniently out of alignment.
