Vol. 1

Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition, Vol. 1

Fullmetal Edition 1 begins the Elric brothers’ story in a hardcover with a separate collected-book number. VIZ lists this exact ISBN at 280 pages and $25.00; standard paperback 1 is a different purchase. The inspected materials show a color chapter-title spread and annotated early designs for Edward and his automail. Our comparison uses selected publisher panels, a publisher catalog page and photographs of a declared review copy, alongside Yen Press’s licensed standard digital sample. It does not claim a complete physical inspection, a verified crossover endpoint or a comparison of every translation change.

The publisher’s selected Central-arrival page gives the brothers opposing responses to the same destination. Edward urges Alphonse to hurry and announces their arrival; Alphonse points out that the library will still be there. Edward supplies momentum, while Alphonse questions the need to rush. His imposing armor does not make him the forceful voice. The contrast is practical rather than a permanent ranking: impatience can get the journey moving, but it also turns an ordinary walk into another demand on his brother.

A launch crop of Edward lashing out while Alphonse looks startled prevents the expensive presentation from making the pair uniformly dignified. Their comedy depends on a mismatch between outward scale and self-control. Another crop, the diner’s question about street performers, matches the corresponding question in the licensed standard digital sample. That surviving line is a counterexample to treating an advertised updated translation as a change to every balloon. This reading is limited to the selected publisher page and crops; the adjoining scenes and whole chapter have not been read in this hardcover.

Vol. 2

Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition, Vol. 2

Fullmetal Edition 2 opens with the brothers confronting Scar, rather than starting at the same place as paperback Volume 2. Its own contents begin with After the Rain. The selected opening-chapter panels read here put Edward's impulse to protect Alphonse under pressure from Alphonse himself. Selected back matter also shows early Alphonse armor sketches, with small translated annotations. This reading uses readable photographs in a public review video of the English hardcover: it covers those panels and one sketch spread, without treating a fast flip-through as a complete reading or an inventory of every extra.

Scar says that anyone obstructing him may be eliminated, even though his immediate target is Edward. Edward later asks Alphonse why he did not run when told. Alphonse answers that he did not want to leave Edward behind, then punches him and rebukes his decision to choose death when survival was possible. Edward's reply is that running might have endangered his brother. Each makes the other's survival his reason, but Alphonse refuses to let that reason settle the argument. The gesture intended as protection has denied him a say in what they risk together. His punch turns the exchange into physical comedy without removing its accusation. These are selected panels from the opening chapter, not a reconstruction of every move in the fight. The inspected bonus spread places several armor studies beside one another, including a frontal helmet and a profile. One translated note identifies an Al draft and mentions a reminder about equivalent exchange. It gives a glimpse of design work, not a second narrative scene or proof of which drawing became final. The annotations and drawings are the evidence here; paper feel and binding durability cannot be judged from the video.

Vol. 3

Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition, Vol. 3

Fullmetal Edition 3 begins with Fullmetal Body and includes a photographed set of Mustang concept studies. The book's own contents identify the opening chapter, while selected pages in a public physical review establish the passage and drawings discussed below. The hardcover's number counts this edition, so it is not a checked replacement for a standard paperback carrying the same number. The inspected story spread and sketch spread give two separate reasons to examine this book: how bodies are handled in the fiction, and how a familiar character was drawn before publication.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

The opening spread makes the difference between a body and a person brutally visible. A helmet on the ground calls for its brother while another disassembled figure insists they can still fight. Lust's remark about having no choice precedes her attack in front of the brother. That excuse assigns the responsibility for her action to its target, even as the drawing places the act in her hands. The selected concept spread works differently: Mustang's uniform, shoulder cord, head studies and hands appear as drawings to develop, rather than as events inside the story. A shaded-eye face and separate hand poses let a buyer inspect design work instead of accepting a general promise of bonus material. The reading is limited to photographed opening pages 4–5 and that selected Mustang spread in the physical Fullmetal Edition 3. It does not inventory every extra, certify a complete fight or compare the hardcover's translation with the paperback.

Vol. 4

Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition, Vol. 4

Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition 4 opens with Winry preparing to help a woman give birth. Its checked contents start partway through licensed standard digital Volume 5 and stop before the final chapter in Volume 6. The selected opening shifts responsibility away from the brothers, who can offer encouragement but cannot take over. The standard previews start with Winry admiring merchandise and the brothers' teacher discussing their trial, respectively. This analysis covers the physical edition's first four story pages as displayed in an identified review video; the delivery's outcome and later chapters remain unexamined.

Winry's instructions sound practical: boil water, gather towels, find disinfectant and make sure the mother can reach drinking water. Ed's explanation immediately complicates that authority. Growing up among doctors and looking through medical books are not the same as studying medicine. He acknowledges the difference, yet decides that trusting her memory and courage is their best option. The next spread makes his confidence less secure. After he and Al encourage Winry, she asks Paninya to help and goes into the room; the brothers remain outside, frightened by the cries they hear. Ed admits fear, while Al feels useless. Their familiar ability to act cannot solve this particular need, and their encouragement does not erase the risk. The collected book therefore begins with a handover of responsibility rather than a display of the brothers' mastery. That reading stops with their anxious wait. Neither their trust nor Winry's decisive preparations establish a successful birth within the checked pages.
