A practice victory exposes Karasuno's defensive gaps in Haikyu Volume 3. The VIZ synopsis says the Aoba Johsai game exposed weaknesses and identifies libero Yu Nishinoya as the player the team needs. Readers interested in the whole roster have a clearer reason to continue here than readers looking only for another Hinata and Kageyama combination. A successful attack has not made every position interchangeable.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Nishinoya gives this volume a specific recruitment problem. According to VIZ, the defensive specialist exists within Karasuno already, but a suspension complicates his availability. The distinction matters: the team does not simply need a more talented version of the players it has been using. It needs someone assigned to a different job. That makes this a useful early purchase for a reader interested in how a sports cast earns its supporting roles. The practice result is evidence of potential, while the uncovered defensive holes remain a separate obligation.
