Hunter x Hunter Volume 14 follows Gon and Killua into Greed Island after their selection as players. Chapters 128–139 continue the game entry, and the opening treats learning the rules as unfinished work rather than a solved tutorial. The licensed passage below ends during their first encounter with another player. Omnibus 5 includes this standard book, so either edition covers this portion; their book numbers do not identify the same starting point or establish matching page layouts.

Gon and Killua notice that they are being watched, but awareness of an opponent does not supply knowledge of his tools. They decide the observer cannot be very good if he is so obvious; he then reads their names, checks their empty card slots and casts a tracking spell. Their strength remains real, yet the information gap lets a less imposing player dictate the encounter. The memory card also frustrates a different expectation: Ging left a message rather than a stock of useful items, so Gon must begin without inherited progress. Together, those choices make the game resist an easy father-to-son shortcut. Familiar abilities are useful, but they do not exempt the boys from learning a system other players already exploit.
