Part 2: Battle Tendency — hardcover 1

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 2--Battle Tendency , Vol. 1

Battle Tendency hardcover 1 starts a new Joestar introduction in New York, after a stone-mask discovery in the opening chapter. VIZ's free reader shows this Part 2 book's cover and contents, then the street encounter discussed below. The hardcover number belongs to Battle Tendency, rather than the preceding Phantom Blood line. This is a reading of that licensed digital sample, not an inspection of the binding, paper or every chapter in the physical book. Its first meeting makes a useful test of Joseph's conduct before the larger adventure begins.

Joseph protects Smokey by denying an injury requires its victim to be innocent. Smokey has stolen his wallet; the policemen then use racist abuse, violence and demands for regular payments to turn arrest into extortion. Joseph calls the wallet a gift before he knows Smokey's name. That false account refuses the officers' claim to decide who deserves protection, but it is not evidence that Joseph witnessed no theft. His own violence also needs a limit: after injuring both policemen, he admits losing his temper and worries about Erina's reaction. The rescue establishes courage and volatility together. Smokey subsequently introduces himself and acknowledges that Joseph lied for him. This analysis covers the New York sequence at VIZ reader positions 9–19, ending with that introduction. Those positions are sample coordinates, not verified printed folios. It does not certify the rest of the chapter, Japanese wording or an anime equivalent.

Part 2: Battle Tendency — hardcover 2

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 2--Battle Tendency , Vol. 2

Battle Tendency hardcover 2 opens with Joseph and Caesar quarreling in Rome before Caesar launches a Hamon attack. Their disagreement turns family history into an immediate test of respect and ability: neither man accepts the other's account of what his grandfather's sacrifice means. The inspected story pages are in color, but cannot establish the presentation of the entire book. This analysis ends with Caesar's first bubble attack, before the contest produces a result.

Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.

Caesar approaches Joseph as someone who should understand the Zeppeli family's history. Joseph has only recently learned about it, and their different relationships to that knowledge become a grievance. Caesar dismisses Joseph's earlier victories as luck; Joseph answers by belittling Caesar's technique and his family's loss. The exchange quickly involves someone outside their argument. Caesar uses Hamon to make the woman he has been flirting with attack Joseph, demonstrating his control through another person's body. His demand for respect therefore arrives alongside an act that deserves scrutiny itself. Speedwagon considers letting Joseph lose as a lesson, but that thought is not evidence of an eventual defeat. By the final inspected pages, Caesar has launched bubbles using soap concealed in his clothing. The fight has begun, while the question of what either man has earned through inherited pride remains open.
