Part 3: Stardust Crusaders — hardcover 1
Stardust Crusaders hardcover 1 introduces Jotaro through a refusal to leave jail. His mother remembers a cheerful child, the police see an unusually violent teenager, and Jotaro says an evil spirit is following him. The opening gives each account concrete evidence without resolving the power's nature. This analysis covers the licensed preview through its shift to a salvaged coffin; it does not extend to an explanation of that discovery or Jotaro's later journey.

The police are prepared to release Jotaro, but he stays behind bars because he cannot account for what happened during a fight. His strength means the cell cannot simply hold him: he bends the bars while insisting that leaving would be dangerous. Objects appear around him, suggesting that the power operates beyond ordinary reach, yet the demonstration that follows is much more disturbing. He takes a guard's gun, aims at his own head and catches the shot. That act displays an ability while putting everyone nearby through a frightening test of it. Holly's memories of a happy child do not explain away the injured people, and the police's record of those injuries does not explain the unseen force. Jotaro's description of an evil spirit remains his interpretation. The opening asks how much control a spectacular demonstration proves when its owner still refuses to trust himself outside the cell.
