Part 6: Stone Ocean — hardcover 1
Stone Ocean hardcover 1 opens inside a Florida jail with Jolyne distressed about a guard invading a private moment. Conversations at the bars then shift from embarrassment to transfer, innocence and a package sent through her lawyer. The last inspected page shows her finger beginning to unravel after a small wound. This analysis covers the licensed opening through that unexplained bodily change, before its cause or her legal predicament receives a fuller account.

Jolyne initially fears how a guard will judge her, while the neighboring prisoners respond with jokes and questions rather than reassurance. Another woman studies her hand and offers confident deductions about why she was arrested. Jolyne challenges that confidence by asking whether a claim of innocence would be believed. Their discussion turns the body into something other people examine for evidence, before the final pages make Jolyne's own body unfamiliar to her. Her lawyer reports that bail has been denied and that she will be transferred; these are his explanations within the scene, not independently checked statements of law. Among her belongings is a pendant attributed to her father. Opening it cuts her finger on a small fragment, and the finger then appears to unwind into a strand. An object connected to family interrupts an institutional routine, but the preview has not yet explained what that connection means.
