Midoriya's friends set out to reach him in My Hero Academia volume 33. His departure from U.A. was intended to draw danger away from them, so the next problem is whether separation actually serves the people he wants to protect. This follows the street-level situation of the preceding book. Readers interested in the class as a relationship, rather than merely a roster of abilities, have a particular reason to continue here.

The classmates' decision to bring Midoriya back disputes his method without denying his motive. He wants to keep them safe; they reject the idea that he should bear One For All's burden alone. The change in emphasis gives the other students judgment of their own, instead of leaving them as people whose safety he can define unilaterally. The publisher also places that effort within a crisis expanding beyond Japan. That larger scale makes the personal intervention more necessary, not less: a hero taking on greater danger does not thereby become a sufficient support system for himself.
