Chapters 505 to 514 finish a fight with Kisame Hoshigaki, then spend their second half setting up a war that starts in the next book. Might Guy meets Kisame for the third time. After that the volume is logistics: Madara goes to Amegakure for something he needs, Kabuto Yakushi is sent after the two remaining hosts, and one chapter is titled for the truth about Zetsu. This is the weakest book in the stretch from 49 to 60, and it is worth saying so before the money changes hands: it closes one subplot and spends the rest of its length arranging books that are not this one. Viz lists it at 192 pages and $11.99. Box Set 3 covers volumes 49 through 72 at $254.99, against $287.76 for the same twenty-four books bought singly.

Kisame faked his death four volumes ago and hid inside his own sword to listen to everything said on Bee's island, which is a trick the series almost never bothers with, and Guy is the one who ends it. Kisame then kills himself to keep his intelligence out of Konoha's hands, and sends it to Madara anyway. The rest is groundwork. Madara collects Nagato's body from Amegakure and kills Konan when she tries to stop him, retiring the Rain thread inside a book that is not about it. Kabuto, unable to reach Naruto or Bee, takes Yamato instead. The volume's function is conversion: Kabuto walks in as Orochimaru's former assistant and walks out as a power the five Kage have to plan around, and the next five books are shaped by that promotion rather than by anything Madara does.
