One-Punch Man opens with a hero whose strength has already made winning boring. Saitama can finish a promising confrontation before it becomes a contest, so the starting point is also a joke about endings. Begin here for the premise, rather than choosing a later battle because its opponent looks more imposing. The relevant obstacle is the absence of challenge, and a stronger-looking villain does not automatically solve it.

The first book makes dissatisfaction the cost of success. VIZ describes Saitama repeatedly dispatching opponents with a single punch while looking for a fight that would give his life meaning. That is a better comic engine than simple invincibility: the result he wants and the result his ability produces are incompatible. A victory can therefore disappoint its winner without becoming a defeat in disguise. The risk is repetition, and the opening premise offers no reason to pretend otherwise. Buying the start means buying that contradiction before knowing how many variations it can sustain.
