A combat tournament gives Saitama a separate agenda while hero hunting continues in One-Punch Man. Metal Bat has an assignment protecting a Hero Association executive and his son, placing professional duty beside voluntary competition. Read this as the setup for the tournament-and-crisis stretch, not as a standalone tournament package. The two premises matter together: Saitama chooses an arena while other heroes still have people to guard outside it.

The tournament introduces a useful distinction between a fight someone enters and a danger someone is responsible for stopping. Saitama chooses the former, while Metal Bat accepts protection work for an executive and his child. The publisher places those activities beside an intensifying hero hunt, so the separation already carries a cost in attention. The tournament is not automatically a holiday for the story merely because its lead wants to compete. Its value is the friction between a controlled occasion for fighting and duties that continue without waiting for the contestants to finish. Metal Bat's assignment makes that friction concrete.
