Vol. 1: Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Complete Omnibus Edition
Hanokage's original Madoka Magica manga adaptation is collected here in one omnibus. Its opening places Madoka before a battered Homura and then offers her the power to change the disaster. The comparison below reads selected opening pages photographed in a public video of this English omnibus. The anime counterpart is the 2011 television series' first episode, compared through wjmax's bilingual dialogue transcript. That is a comparison of recorded dialogue and the inspected manga panels; no anime playback, particular home-video revision or frame-by-frame visual equivalence is claimed.

The inspected manga pages turn helplessness into a proposal. Kyubey describes the fight as too much for Homura to manage alone. Madoka recoils from the scene, and Homura appears injured. Kyubey then asks Madoka whether she would like to change destiny, tells her she has the necessary power, and proposes a contract that would make her a magical girl. Homura reaches toward her while Kyubey finishes the offer. The offer sounds like an answer to suffering, but its terms arrive from the figure also explaining that suffering. In wjmax's transcript of television episode one, the corresponding exchange likewise moves from one girl's inability to handle the burden to Madoka's power to change the outcome and a contract. The manga's explicit question about wanting to change destiny gives that transition a direct invitation; the transcribed anime dialogue first asserts that she can change it. This local wording difference does not establish a different plot or a better translation. The examined opening ends at the offer, so neither Madoka's acceptance nor an explanation of the dream is inferred from these pages.
