Sakamoto Days continues the clashes between serial killers, the Order, and Sakamoto’s crew. The book belongs with the conflict already gathering around the retired assassin, rather than with the store’s everyday business. X’s involvement also makes the fighting part of a larger threat. If that struggle is what you are following, keep the surrounding volumes together: the opposing groups matter before any individual outcome can carry its weight.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
The advertised conflict has several groups fighting at once, while X reveals his intentions behind their violence. That makes the serial killers more than a queue of opponents for the protagonist. Their clashes also create the circumstances in which the mastermind can declare what the trouble is for. Reading this stretch as a sequence of isolated victories would miss that relationship between combat and purpose. The question worth carrying through the fights is whose plan the damage serves. Sakamoto’s own transformation belongs inside that continuing conflict; it is not a promise that the larger problem has been settled.
