The final Slam Dunk paperback opens with Shohoku and Sannoh still contesting the game. VIZ labels this the final volume and places the teams close together near the end of play. Buy it to complete the standard run, or to replace a missing ending in an existing set. It is the least sensible place to sample the series: the remaining contest depends on the players and pressure accumulated in the preceding books.

VIZ's setup makes the distinction concrete: Sannoh still leads, Shohoku has closed the gap, and the game remains undecided in the description. The last book therefore belongs with the sustained match reading rather than being left aside as optional aftermath. For a replacement purchase, check that the preceding Sannoh books are already present: the final spine completes a sequence that is still in progress. Complete the sequence before beginning the closing stretch if you want the remaining game available together.
