Prince Bon brings an ability to see the dead into Fushi's continuing journey. This is a character arrival to follow in sequence, especially if you are interested in who can understand things Fushi cannot. Fushi is traveling with the Guardians when Bon captures him. Their meeting gives the book its immediate point of interest: an unusual form of knowledge placed alongside Fushi's unusual existence, with neither making the relationship straightforward.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Bon and Fushi go on to provide aid and protection from Nokkers, but their work meets a force that treats Fushi's existence as heresy. Useful action is therefore insufficient to settle whether he will be accepted. Bon's ability to see the dead also establishes a difference in what the pair can perceive, rather than merely giving Fushi another companion with the same information. The reason to buy this arrival is that combination of unequal knowledge and public judgment. Helping people does not guarantee that the authority judging you will call it help.
