Tokyo Ghoul: re begins with an instructor who has problems of his own to solve. VIZ introduces Haise Sasaki through his assignment to train the Qs Squad, an investigative team whose personalities make cooperation difficult. His uncertain control of his Ghoul abilities gives that teaching job a second complication. Buy this as the opening of the re run: the new numbering belongs to this title, and the squad is its immediate focus.

The attraction here is the mismatch between responsibility and competence. VIZ describes Haise as the person charged with making the others effective investigators while still struggling with his own powers. That is a more specific reason to try the book than a general appetite for monster fights: the instructor cannot simply stand outside the problem he is teaching others to manage. Readers who want that uneasy authority relationship have a clear premise to assess. The first assignment tests whether these people can function together; a volume number beginning again does not make Haise an uncomplicated guide.
