Trigun: Original Trigun Deluxe

The original Trigun in one 7 × 10-inch hardcover, collecting its two English paperback volumes. Read this before Trigun Maximum Deluxe 1; the sequel numbering restarts.

Trigun Deluxe

Trigun Deluxe begins the original manga with a ruined city and a wanted man. This single hardcover collects the original Trigun's two English paperback volumes; Trigun Maximum follows it as a separate sequel. The collection’s own contents identify both paperbacks inside the same binding. The opening analysis below uses selected pages from the first collected volume in the publisher-authorized Google Books preview. Omitted pages and later chapters are outside the reading; it is not a review of all 704 pages.

The wanted notice labels Vash a pacifist while naming a murder suspicion. Its cheerful portrait cannot resolve that tension. The surrounding town makes violence less exceptional: a street board counts the day’s injuries and murders, and a child at a bakery asks for a real airgun while already holding a gun. Against that ordinary traffic, Vash’s plea for a doctor produces an onlooker’s joke that a priest would be more useful. The opening places a person’s distress beside people accustomed to treating death as routine. That contrast complicates the heroic gunman’s arrival before it explains his reputation. The notice records allegations, not an established account of the city’s destruction. These selected opening pages therefore invite a question about how a community recognizes danger; they do not yet settle who caused it or how Vash will escape.
