Yona is isolated at Hiryuu Palace, forbidden from contacting Hak or the Dragon Warriors. This paperback makes access to her own companions the immediate problem, giving the return to court a restrictive shape. Read it with the preceding palace material. The tension comes from being inside a place of power while lacking freedom within it, rather than from another journey across the kingdom or a new recruitment task.

Yona leaves her room despite the restrictions and encounters Su-won, identified in the publisher's description as her father's murderer. She also begins uncovering mysteries about his parents. The move toward family history does not erase the immediate wrong in front of her. It changes the kind of explanation the story can pursue, adding causes and inheritances to a confrontation already charged by what Su-won did. This volume is useful for that shift in inquiry: the palace confines Yona while also placing evidence about the people around her within reach.
