Jaeha's introduction puts an unwilling ally in the path of Yona's Dragon search. The Green Dragon already has a life among pirates, and that makes this paperback a useful stop for readers interested in the terms on which someone joins a group. Read it as part of the recruitment sequence. Its central obstacle is consent: finding the person Yona needs does not mean that he has agreed to follow her.

Jaeha does not want to accompany Yona, so she offers help to him and his fellow pirates. Captain Gi-Gan's response is a test: obtain the Senju Herb from the steep cliff of the Vanishing Cape. The exchange gives the recruitment a different shape from collecting someone whose role was assigned in advance. Yona must make herself useful to people with their own priorities. The danger is real, but the more pointed issue is authority. A prophecy can identify Jaeha without giving Yona the right to command him.
