“I am sorry... and you're offering me something better than winning.”
Duke asks why Yugi is letting him off so easily, and Yugi makes friendship depend on genuine remorse. Duke's apology answers that invitation. The exchange is generous because it offers him something to do with regret beyond remaining defeated and embarrassed. It is also incomplete: the conversation does not establish what repairing his conduct would require. His relief at being offered a relationship is more convincing than a claim that every consequence has disappeared. Friendship can begin the repair without serving as proof that the repair is finished. Yugi's condition matters for that reading. He is proposing an alternative to continuing the quarrel, not declaring Duke's behavior irrelevant. The warmth comes from making change seem possible while leaving sincerity as something Duke must bring to the offer.
