Assigning a task to someone who has not agreed and will not understand it for decades. That is the quiet ruthlessness in him, and the series does not pretend otherwise: he knew what her lifespan meant, he knew she was not paying attention, and he arranged things so that the noticing would happen later, to her, alone. Calling it a job rather than a hope is the tell. He is not expressing a wish that she remember them; he is allocating responsibility, in advance, to the only member of the party who will still be around to discharge it. The kindest character in the story is also the one who set up its central grief on purpose.
