“Deceive the first you.Deceive the world. That is the choice to arrive at the 'Steins Gate'.”

The plan's final instruction asks a man to lie to himself, specifically to the version of himself who watched Kurisu fall, because that witnessed past is load-bearing for every world line built on it. The consequence structure is brutal and elegant. Nothing may be undone; something must still change; the only movable surface left is his own memory of grief. Okabe accepts a mission whose cost is carrying a death he knows never needed to happen, forever, so that the timeline holding his friends stays intact. The line reframes heroism as bookkeeping. Somebody has to remember the version of events nobody else lived, and the story chooses the person least equipped to forget.

“El...Psy...Congroo.”

The signature phrase of a self-declared mad scientist is, by his own later admission, meaningless. That admission is the character arc compressed into punctuation. Okabe invents Hououin KyoMAU, poses, laughs alone into a phone that is not connected, and builds an identity sturdy enough that when genuine horror arrives, the persona is what holds. The nonsense phrase survives fifteen years of timeline grief unchanged, a password between the boy playing at destiny and the man who inherited it for real. When he finally signs off with it after everything, the joke has become a vow. Pretending to be extraordinary, it turns out, is how some people practice for the day they are.
