Delicious in Dungeon is complete in English in 14 paperbacks from Yen Press, and there is a box set that contains exactly those 14. That makes the choice simple: buy the singles if you want to try it or spread the cost, buy the box if you want the whole thing packaged. Two companion books sit outside the story and are optional.

The paperbacks

Vol. 1, ISBN 9780316471855, sets up the premise: a dragon attack deep in the dungeon costs Laios’s party its money, its provisions and one of its members, and with no food or coin for the return trip, Laios proposes they eat the monsters. Yen Press calls Vol. 14 (ISBN 9798855400359) “the final volume of Delicious in Dungeon.” Every volume lists at $15.00 in print and $6.99 digitally.

The Complete Box Set

Yen Press’s box set page lists “Delicious in Dungeon manga volumes 1-14 (the complete series!)”, “an exclusive poster featuring all monster illustrations from the back of the individual volumes” and “a thoughtfully designed box, fashioned to look like the mimic treasure chest monster from the series.” At $225.00 it costs $15.00 more than the 14 paperbacks at list. What that buys is the poster and the box, not extra story. If you already own some volumes, the box repeats them; buy your missing numbers instead.

The companion books

  • World Guide: The Adventurer’s Bible, Complete Edition ($24.00) is an “updated edition covering the complete series” with illustrations, “never-before-seen secret tales, a monster encyclopedia” and character details, “featuring more than seventy new pages.” It updates an earlier Adventurer’s Bible, so if you are buying one now, check that the listing says Complete Edition.
  • Doodles by Ryoko Kui: Daydream Hour ($24.00) collects “comics, sketches, and full color illustrations” drawn over the series’ creation.

Neither is part of the numbered story, and neither is in the box set’s listed contents. Read them after Vol. 14; a guide that covers the complete series may reveal the ending.

Which to buy

  • Trying it: Vol. 1.
  • Buying all of it at once for yourself: the singles are $15 cheaper at list; the box is the better gift.
  • Finished and want more: the Adventurer’s Bible Complete Edition, then Daydream Hour.

Our essay on the opening food plan covers why the premise works, and Laios and Maomao compares two specialists. For other boxes, see the box set guide.
