The Best Manga Box Sets, Honestly Ranked

This page exists because "which box set" is a genuinely confusing question, and most pages answering it are lists of covers. Every set below is the official publisher's edition, checked against the live listing rather than recalled, and every link is an affiliate link, disclosed at the bottom.

One honest note before the money is spent: a box set is a commitment to shelf space as much as to a story. Where a series has no official set, this page says so and points at volume one instead, because starting is cheaper than owning.

The complete stories

These are finished. What you buy is what there is, which is the strongest argument a box set can make.

Jujutsu Kaisen finished in 2024 and the complete box set holds volumes 1 to 30 plus volume 0, the prequel the film adapts. Buying the ending is the point here: everything our ending explainer discusses happens in the back third of this box.

Dragon Ball is sold in English the way the anime split it. The Dragon Ball set covers volumes 1 to 16, which is the boy-meets-dragon-radar half, and the Dragon Ball Z set covers volumes 1 to 26 of the half the world remembers. Both ship with a bonus item, and together they are the whole manga: chapter 519, the ending our explainer argues everything since has been circling, is the last page of the second box.

Vinland Saga finished in July 2025, and the deluxe line starting with Deluxe 1 is the edition worth having. It is the one series on this page where this site will say the manga is not optional: the anime is two seasons into a story whose final act may never be filmed.

The big commitments

My Hero Academia is complete at 42 volumes and boxed in two halves. Box Set 1 is volumes 1 to 20 with a bonus item; a second set covers 21 to 42. Twenty volumes is the honest unit of decision, and the first box ends deep enough into the story to know whether you are finishing it.

One Piece is the shelf-space decision of a lifetime, so the sets are sold by saga. The East Blue and Baroque Works set is volumes 1 to 23, the whole first stretch, and later sets continue in order through Wano and beyond. Nobody should buy more than one of these at a time, and the first one tells you everything about whether the other ninety volumes are in your future.

Naruto is complete at 72 volumes, boxed in three parts. Box Set 1 is volumes 1 to 27 with a bonus item, which carries the story past the point where the anime dissolves into its famous filler block; our filler list explains that boundary. The manga has no padding at all, which is the quiet argument for reading this one instead of watching it.

Attack on Titan is boxed by season rather than in one block: the Season 1 Part 1 box set opens a Kodansha line that runs set by set to the end. Where no box set exists, start at volume one

Frieren has no official set yet, which is what happens to a series still running. Volume 1 is where the anime's first episode starts, and our watch order covers how far the two seasons reach.

Dragon Ball Super likewise sells by the volume, starting with volume 1. Worth knowing what it is before buying: the continuation drawn by Toyotarou from Toriyama's storyboards, slotting into the ten-year gap before the original ending.

Mobile Suit Gundam is best entered in print through The Origin, Deluxe 1, the retelling of the original series drawn by the show's own character designer. It is the manga this site's Universal Century watch order points at for people who bounce off 1979 animation.

Gundam Wing gets Glory of the Losers, volume 1, the manga retelling of the series. Wing needs no other Gundam first, in print exactly as on screen.
