Demon Slayer: Singles, Complete Box, and Extras

Choose Demon Slayer singles or the 23-volume box, separate Stories of Water and Flame, and count duplicates before buying.

Last updated October 8, 2026

Buy Volume 1 to sample Demon Slayer, or choose the complete box when you want the whole numbered manga in one purchase. VIZ’s Complete Box Set contains all 23 volumes, an exclusive booklet and a double-sided poster. It is a collection of the numbered story, not an invitation to buy another 23 books afterward.

The two practical routes

RouteContents or starting pointBest use
Individual paperbacksVolume 1 onwardTrying the story or filling gaps.
Complete Box SetAll 23 volumes, booklet and double-sided poster.Starting a complete collection.
Supplementary mangaStories of Water and FlameA separate purchase, not a missing main-story number.

A box has the strongest practical case for someone with an empty shelf and a settled decision to collect the run. Singles have the stronger case when you want to limit the initial commitment or already own part of it. Neither route requires assuming that one binding changes the story’s meaning or that a box necessarily offers the best retailer deal. The relevant difference here is how much of the numbered run you buy together.

If you own Volumes 1–8, buying the complete box repeats eight books; the missing main-story books are 9–23. That leaves a choice between fifteen missing singles and a complete purchase that includes duplicates. The booklet and poster may matter to you, but they should be weighed as extras rather than treated as additional story volumes. Keep the count explicit when planning a gift for someone who already collects the series.

Keep Stories of Water and Flame separate

Stories of Water and Flame has original concept credit to Koyoharu Gotouge and story and art credit to Ryoji Hirano. The numbered Volume 1 credits Gotouge for story and art. The different title and credits are useful checks when searching by series name alone.

The side story’s product page uses a different title from the numbered main run. A seller’s database may arrange that title near the first volumes, but that position should not change your shopping list. Buy the 23-number sequence for the complete main manga; decide on the additional title separately. If a bundle claims to contain everything, ask whether that means the numbered story, the advertised box contents or other books with the same franchise name.

Identify the purchase before committing

The Volume 1 paperback is ISBN 9781974700523. The box is ISBN 9781974725953, with a November 9, 2021 publication date.

Check the ISBN against the listing when choosing a print copy. For a used collection, ask for every spine number and the condition of the advertised extras; the fact that the published box includes a poster does not guarantee a particular seller still has it. Publication history also does not establish present stock.

The Demon Slayer catalog is the useful place to assemble missing numbered books. An anime viewer should use the separate continuation guidance before buying a later volume: the purchasing choice between box and singles does not itself establish a television or film handoff. For a new reader, Volume 1 is the low-commitment choice; for a reader who wants the full main run, the box makes its contents unusually clear.
