The sixth Akira paperback concludes the six-volume paperback series with the world’s armed forces facing Akira and Tetsuo. Neo-Tokyo is already devastated, and the confrontation gathers around two people whom military strength cannot treat as ordinary opponents. At 440 pages, this is the closing book to obtain after Vol. 5, not a separate epilogue volume. Its place in the set is unambiguous: the story reaches its conclusion here rather than requiring a seventh paperback.

The final book separates intending damage from controlling power. Kodansha’s synopsis describes Akira’s two destructions of the city as unintentional, but Tetsuo’s ravaging of the Moon as amusement. That contrast gives the confrontation a distinction that a comparison of psychic strength misses: catastrophic power does not establish identical intent. The same description has Tetsuo losing control of his energies and mutating as the forces converge. Our reading is that the deliberate spectacle and the bodily collapse require different judgments. His instability makes him a danger to himself without turning his damage to the Moon into an accident. Conversely, calling Akira’s destruction unintentional does not make its consequences harmless. This is a reading of the publisher’s stated contrast, not a claim to have inspected the final scenes or established how either character is judged by the survivors.
