Bleach 12 opens in a pause after Ichigo's fight with Renji, with both men still needing urgent care. Chapters 99–107 continue the Soul Society rescue, but the opening's step back from combat does not make victory a safe stopping point. Hanataro has a wounded ally to treat while the officers arriving at the battlefield decide what their defeated colleague deserves. This reading covers the licensed opening through page 19; later discoveries and the rescue outcome remain outside its bounds.

Byakuya refuses the proposed rescue unit for Renji and orders him put in a cell. He treats choosing to fight alone as an obligation to win, then declares the beaten man useless. The objection comes from Hinamori, who starts to defend Renji before Kira silences her and apologizes. This is discipline enforced partly by colleagues anticipating the superior's reaction. Alongside it, Hanataro promises to heal Ichigo overnight, turning a military division's healing specialty toward an intruder. His promise is still a promise at the preview's end. Ichimaru offers to contact the Fourth Company after Byakuya leaves; Hitsugaya then warns Hinamori about Ichimaru and remains uncertain about Kira. The inspected opening makes care and trust separate decisions. An offer of help does not settle whom to believe.
