Bleach Volume 2 continues the search for Chad and the soul inhabiting his parakeet. Its printed contents list chapters 8–16; the opening analysis here covers only pages 7–17 of the licensed VIZ preview. Read the preceding paperback first, because the disappearance is already in progress. Omnibus 1 includes this material with standard volumes 1 and 3, and Box Set 1 repeats this paperback. Choose one route through those overlapping books.

The opening makes locating Chad a different problem from defeating his attacker. Ichigo leaves class to search, but Rukia explains that the Hollow cannot be detected while hiding between worlds. His urgency initially supplies no method. When he concentrates on the parakeet instead, her astonishment identifies an ability her own training has not made available at that distance. That distinction is the useful turn: Ichigo can exceed his teacher in perception while still needing her account of what he perceives. Rukia is not refusing to help; she is explaining a real detection limit. The rescue attempt depends on testing that limit rather than treating impatience as knowledge. These pages establish a possible lead, not the search outcome.
