Chainsaw Man's rampage follows a severe loss, carrying the preceding crisis into a public space. This is a continuation for readers who know what has driven the violence. Buying it as a disconnected spectacle would remove the motive that distinguishes it from another citywide fight. Keep the surrounding story in view: the important question for a reading purchase is whose purposes the violence can serve once it is underway.

Several objectives occupy the same crisis. VIZ describes Yoru facing a sacrifice to pursue her goals, while the Aging Devil acts to make Chainsaw Man eat him. That makes a straightforward picture of attacker and victim inadequate: being consumed can itself be something a participant wants. The useful reason to follow this battle material is that difference in purposes, rather than a claim that the volume simply contains a stronger enemy. Physical destruction is visible, but understanding the conflict also requires attending to what each participant is trying to obtain through it.
