Nayuta's disappearance leaves Denji facing an absence he cannot resolve by ordinary appetite. The continuation assumes a relationship and a crisis already established, making it a poor first purchase for someone sampling the series. Choose it if the consequences for Denji matter more to you than meeting another opponent. The personal scale is the point of entry: an absent person can organize the story as forcefully as a visible threat. If you own the first-eleven-volume box, this later standard volume still requires a separate purchase.

VIZ describes Denji trying to cope with depression through eating and warns of a tragedy at a sushi restaurant. The useful reading distinction is between satisfying hunger and addressing the reason for seeking satisfaction. A meal offers something immediate and manageable when the missing person does not. The attraction of that immediate task is also its limit: a missing person cannot be recovered by completing a meal. The case for this volume is therefore Denji's attempt to give an unbearable problem an ordinary response. Neither the smallness of that response nor its familiarity makes it sufficient.
