Death Note: How to Read

Supplementary reference guide with creator interviews and bonus manga. Already included in the Complete Box Set; not a thirteenth story volume.

How to Read: Death Note 13: How to Read

Death Note 13: How to Read is a reference supplement for readers who have finished the twelve-volume main story. The Complete Box Set already includes it, so check the box inventory before buying the guide separately. Its number does not identify another main-story volume. The verified sample profiles combine personal data, ability charts and compressed accounts of characters’ roles. The analysis below examines those public sample pages only. VIZ also advertises interviews, production notes and bonus manga, whose full contents have not been read here.

The sampled profiles turn narrative lives into records: dates, attributes, a polygon of abilities and a few decisive events. Sayu’s entry still names the trauma of her kidnapping and shows her withdrawal, so the format does not erase consequences altogether. It does compress them beside measures such as intelligence and emotional strength. Takada’s page links her broadcasting career to her elevation as Kira’s representative, while Watari’s identifies the inventor’s fortune and the institution supporting gifted children. These connections make the guide useful for tracing a remembered relationship. The charts offer much less reason to treat a character as a measurable person. This reading concerns the publicly visible English profile pages, not an assessment of the unseen interviews or every entry in the book.
