Death Note: Short Stories
Supplementary manga collection including C-Kira, a-Kira, the pilot chapter and pieces about L. Sold separately from the Complete Box Set.
Short Stories: Death Note Short Stories
Death Note Short Stories is a separate manga collection for readers returning after the main story. Its contents name C-Kira, a-Kira, four-panel comics, two L vignettes and Taro Kagami. The Complete Box Set’s enumerated inventory does not include this later book. The opening C-Kira pages revisit the investigators’ response to another notebook user, rather than extending the twelve singles with a standard Volume 13. The analysis below covers that opening sample only; it does not review each story or establish whether bonus manga overlaps with other editions.

C-Kira’s opening tests what the investigators learned beyond catching Light. Reports of elderly deaths produce an argument in the police office: Yamamoto invokes pension costs, while Matsuda objects to celebrating the killings. Their disagreement makes the victims’ usefulness to society a dangerous substitute for their right to live. Near supplies a difficult counterexample to any claim that the surviving investigators have reached a shared humane position. He refuses to dignify the new killer with the Kira name, yet still distinguishes Light’s ambition and results from what he sees as a lesser murderer. His judgment retains a hierarchy among killers. Ending Light’s case did not settle the temptation to assess murder by what it achieves. This reading ends at printed page 20 of the licensed C-Kira preview; the story’s resolution and a-Kira are outside its bounds.
