Dragon Ball Super 1 opens with Goku farming while finding time to train. This is the start of Toyotarou’s manga continuation, with story credited to Akira Toriyama, rather than the original Dragon Ball’s first volume. The printed contents list nine manga installments, numbered 1–9 and labeled Episodes; those labels are not television episode coverage. Buy this first Super paperback to begin this manga route. The separate Dragon Ball and Z collected editions do not include it. The spoiler analysis below uses the licensed opening preview and does not claim to cover the remaining chapters.

Goku turns a lunch break into training, then neglects the tractor while concentrating on imagined opponents. Goten has to catch it. His argument that another enemy could arrive gives preparation a defensible purpose, but the immediate cost falls on the child rescuing the vehicle. Hercule’s arrival offers a second kind of dependence. He brings prize money awarded to him as the supposed savior of the world, acknowledges the people who actually fought, and insists that they deserve it. Goku’s initial refusal sounds honorable until Goten connects the money with relief from work and permission to train. The chapter makes maintaining a champion somebody else’s job as well as his own. Beside this domestic negotiation, Beerus destroys part of a planet after criticizing its food. Protective power and arbitrary power appear in the same opening without becoming moral equivalents. This reading uses VIZ’s licensed preview, printed pages 6–21.
