Dragon Ball Super 5 opens with Goku fighting the fused Zamas in the future world. Manga chapters 25–28 continue an encounter already under way; they are separate from the television episode count. The opening offers sustained fighting rather than a clean starting point, with the others watching as Goku presses an opponent who calls himself immortal. This reading covers the licensed pages through Goku preparing another attempt; the confrontation's result and later departures remain unread.

Zamas regrows a severed arm and mocks attacks for doing no lasting damage. The regeneration makes Goku's problem visible without certifying that every conceivable attack must fail. Goku continues until he admits that he has little time left in this condition; Vegeta, watching, says his body is reaching its limit. The attacker's effort depletes a resource the opponent appears able to restore. Goku nevertheless gathers his remaining power for a technique he thinks might work, and Vegeta calls it his last chance. The scene has spent many pages showing effective contact without effective conclusion. Its argument lies in that difference: landing blows can still leave the central problem intact. The inspected opening stops before the proposed answer is tested.
