Dragon Ball Z Volume 5 is a standard single whose material is already included in VIZBIG 2. Z has its own standard numbering, so the original Dragon Ball single with the same number is a different purchase. This paperback opens amid the wreckage of the Vegeta battle. Its contents label the numbered installments Tales. The analysis reads only pages 7–17 of VIZ's licensed preview, including the opening request named in the contents, without describing the later departure or reviewing the whole book.

Kuririn's chance to kill Vegeta appears to offer a practical end to the danger. Goku's request to let him go interrupts that apparent conclusion, and Kuririn supplies reasons that the request cannot dismiss. Their friends have died, the survivors were threatened, and a recovered Vegeta could return. Goku does not dispute the danger or promise that Vegeta will change. His explanation is more troubling: discovering an opponent far beyond his own strength frightened and excited him, and he wants another chance to surpass that opponent himself. Sparing an enemy therefore cannot be read here as uncomplicated faith in rehabilitation. Goku knows the request is unwise. The scene leaves Kuririn holding the sword while another person's desire for a future contest competes with the victims' claims.
