Dragon Ball Z 4 begins inside Goku and Vegeta’s continuing fight. Read the previous Z paperback for the confrontation’s setup; this is not original Dragon Ball Volume 4. The contents lists Z-local Tales 35 to 46. The opening shows each fighter testing an account of his own strength against the other’s response. Our analysis follows only the licensed first exchanges in this book, without describing the full fight, its eventual winner or the cost of techniques outside the excerpt.

Goku smiles when Vegeta corners him, and the narration connects his excitement to Saiyan blood. The scene complicates a reading in which every response comes solely from the wish to protect somebody else. He also takes pleasure in the challenge. Vegeta’s claim to elite superiority has physical evidence behind it: his rising power disturbs the surroundings, and his attacks force Goku to respond. That does not make his social ranking an explanation of every exchange. Goku can counter, while Vegeta can still get behind him and strike. The smile is therefore neither proof of control nor evidence that the danger has vanished. The opening ends this reading with Goku escalating to double Kaioken. This analysis uses only printed pages 7–17 of VIZ’s licensed English Z preview. It does not infer a later multiplier, physical cost or battle outcome from that escalation.
