Dragon Ball Z 9 opens after Ginyu has exchanged bodies with Goku. Tales 95–106 use the English Z numbering; this book is separately labeled the original Dragon Ball series' twenty-fifth volume. The opening depends on the preceding confrontation and makes familiar appearances unreliable. This analysis reads the licensed passage through Vegeta's attack on Ginyu in Goku's body. The exchange's final result and the later conflict with Freeza remain unread.
Spoilers — why this volume matters. Tap to reveal.
Ginyu expects Goku's body to deliver the strength he measured earlier, but Gohan tells him he does not know how to use it. Possessing the visible asset has not supplied the practiced control. Vegeta makes a related criticism of Jeese's reliance on a scouter, then defeats him while insisting his own survival has made him stronger. Goku objects to the killing; Vegeta treats that objection as softness preventing the status he wants. The contrast cannot be reduced to who uses power efficiently. Ginyu struggles with a body he has taken, while Vegeta turns his newly demonstrated ability into permission to dispose of an opponent. When he attacks Ginyu next, Goku's appearance still provokes hesitation among the others. Recognition is less reliable here than the conduct it is attached to.
