Dragon Ball Z 8 continues the fight against the Ginyu Force on Namek. Its numbered Tales 83–94 belong to the English Z sequence, while the title page also identifies this as the original series' twenty-fourth book. The opening is battle continuation, with Vegeta already struggling against Reacoom. This licensed reading stops after Gohan tries to keep fighting; Goku's arrival and the book's later reversals are outside the inspected passage.

Kuririn asks Gohan to help attack because Vegeta can no longer dodge. Reacoom survives their interruption, then treats the damage to his teeth as a reason to punish them. Vegeta rejects the rescue as sentimentality and says they should have attacked their opponent instead of saving him. His criticism names a tactical cost, but demands that the rescuers accept his death as its price. Reacoom soon breaks Kuririn with a kick and complains that he wanted to keep playing. Meanwhile Nail abandons his approach after sensing danger to the Great Elder, making another duty the reason help will not arrive. Gohan's refusal to surrender therefore occurs without a dependable rescue plan. The inspected opening gives courage an immediate burden, without making courage a guarantee against the next blow.
