Fairy Tail standard paperback 2 contains chapters 5 to 13 and opens on Lucy’s first job with Natsu and Happy. Its initial comedy comes from dividing the work and pay before the group fully understands the commission. Read Volume 1 first for Lucy’s entry into the guild. This single is also contained in Omnibus 1, Master’s Edition 1 and Box Set 1. Those purchases repeat earlier material; none is a continuation selected by matching this book’s number.

Lucy’s proposed pay split exposes how quickly friendship becomes a negotiation over labor. She casts herself as the useful attraction for a maid disguise and expects Natsu and Happy to rescue her if caught; their decision to eat while she scouts makes that promised support less reassuring. The client changes the apparent simplicity of the job too. Kaby wants a stolen book destroyed rather than merely recovered, and raises the reward dramatically. His wife then supplies the objection that enthusiasm about money has missed: an earlier guild’s failure has made the target better guarded. Their willingness to help one another has not established that the job is sensible or fairly divided. This reading covers only printed pages 3–18 of the licensed Kodansha/PRH preview, part of chapter 5; it does not reveal the book’s contents or the job’s outcome.
