Frieren Volume 13 begins inside the battle with Grausam's illusion, with the Party of Heroes divided by what each can perceive. The contents list chapters 118–127; the opening resumes an unresolved confrontation rather than introducing the Imperial journey shown on the cover. Read the preceding standard book first. The analysis below covers the licensed opening pages only and follows the immediate response to the illusion, without treating later chapter titles as proof of a complete volume reading.

Himmel can recognize an illusion while his senses continue to report it as reality. Frieren reaches the same limit: recognizing what happened gives her no spell capable of undoing it. The useful difference is how he responds to that limit. With his eyes closed, he attends to displaced air, clothing and movement, borrowing evidence from the battle his vision has stopped showing him. Heiter's confidence is therefore answered by a method, not simply by resolve. Yet the scene does not pretend the wedding dream has become meaningless. After the immediate spell is dispelled, Himmel calls it a nice dream. The passage makes resistance compatible with wanting what an enemy offers; he can relinquish that offered life without having to despise it.
