Keep Haikyu Volume 8 with the earlier Aoba Johsai books: the Inter-High match is still underway. The deciding set leaves Karasuno trying to sustain its momentum against an opponent it already knows. This is a narrow purchase for someone following that game; it is not an efficient sample of the series. Keep the preceding match volumes available, since a late option matters through the contest that has made it necessary.

Yamaguchi's assignment makes the continuation specific. VIZ identifies him as the pinch server Coach Ukai brings into a match whose momentum remains uncertain. A specialist entering late carries a different burden from a starter: there is less room for his contribution to disappear into the routine of a long game. The assignment exposes how much a team asks of players who spend much of the match waiting. The book is most useful to a reader interested in the bench as part of the team, with the surrounding match giving that assignment weight.
