School finals stand between Karasuno and its Tokyo training trip in Haikyu Volume 9. VIZ places the team after its Aoba Johsai defeat, with school finals obstructing the Tokyo trip. This is the less direct purchase for readers seeking an uninterrupted tournament run. Its particular value is the unglamorous condition attached to improvement: players can want stronger opponents and still have to qualify for the trip in a classroom.

The academic obstacle makes this an honest change of pace. VIZ names Hinata, Kageyama, Nishinoya, and Tanaka as students at risk of missing camp. Their importance on court does not exempt them from the school arrangement that makes the team possible. That is enough to distinguish this interval from a disposable pause between games. It asks whether preparation includes the obligations players would rather treat as someone else's concern. Buy it for the transition after defeat and the conditions of access to training, rather than for a new tournament result.
