Hunter x Hunter Volume 12 opens with the Phantom Troupe interpreting a fortune about its own members. Chapters 104–115 belong to the continuing Yorknew confrontation; this is a continuation for readers already following Kurapika's pursuit, rather than a fresh introduction to Gon. The analysis below reads only the licensed opening, not the eventual outcome of those predictions. Omnibus 4 already includes this standard book, so buying both duplicates its story coverage without establishing identical wording or pagination.

Chrollo's reading makes survival a problem of organization. The fortune appears to warn that several members will die, but Shalnark argues that losing reconnaissance and cleanup abilities matters differently from losing a replaceable fighter. Chrollo then reminds Nobunaga that protecting those specialists was the risk he and Uvogin accepted. The scene is uncomfortable because personal grief and group function share the same conversation: leaving might prevent the predicted deaths, yet the leader answers through the duties members undertook. His authority depends on making that distinction seem settled. Meanwhile, Kurapika plans around his belief that the leader is dead before Hisoka sends contradictory information. The opening sets competing decisions against unequal knowledge; it does not demonstrate that a prediction or either group's assumptions will prove correct.
