The final Kaiju No. 8 volume completes the main manga run for readers following Kafka’s Defense Force ambition. His childhood promise and his place among the officers give the ending its history, so this belongs after the preceding books. The paperback contains 292 pages against 188 in the previous volume. That makes the concluding installment a physically larger book, with the central series ending at this spine.

Kafka chooses to surrender his human form for humanity’s sake, bringing the opening contradiction to its limit. At the start, being a kaiju threatens his ambition to serve in the Defense Force; at the end, that form is what he commits to the defense of others. The connection makes this the necessary companion to the opening volume, without requiring a claim about how neatly the ending resolves each relationship. His childhood dream persists, but the body in which he pursues it becomes the cost he accepts. The final confrontation tests service separately from looking human.
